According to the BBC News, the democrats are messing it up for themselves. They are attacking each other and not McCain, who fondest wish is just that. The article was at the top of the page. I checked CNN and i saw nothing about the race except Clintons decision to allow delegates from Florida to have a seat at the convention. They offered no editorial about the overall progress.
The BBC has news about the election on a day by day basis. They literally list the day, and quotes from that day. I don’t see this layout on cnn or fox, in fact those two sites look almost exactly alike aside from their political leanings and color.
CNN had two articles, one about Rudy dropping out and one about Edwards. The one about Edwards sounded like a eulogy. Guliani’s sounded very snide, quoting his “old friend” remark about McCain. On the BBC news site, all I saw was an article about Guliani’s drop out and it was very middle of the road about the whole thing. They didn’t give Edwards an article, though they did mention him.
Aside from my indifference toward the state, a funny thing is going on down south. CNN had two articles describing the turmoil. To be fair, two separate articles were written. One for the GOP and one for the Dems. Primary season doesn’t begin until Feb. 5th. Only a few states were allowed to cast votes before that date. The Democrats threatened to not invite Florida delegates to their convention, while the GOP eliminated half the delegates. Apparently, the democratic contenders all pledged to not campaign in FLA but Clinton will do so anyway as she is the projected winner. I snatched these quotes from BBC news:“The over-65 set can make or break a candidate in Florida. Senior citizens are a political army, making up about 19% of Florida’s population and roughly 40% of the vote, due to their extraordinarily high turnout rates at the polls.”Lisa Lerer, Politico.com“What is extraordinary is how enthusiastic about this primary election Florida’s voters appear to be. By Sunday, more than 400,000 Democrats had already cast early ballots - four times more than voted early in 2004.”New York Times“Assuming Clinton wins tonight, it’s a smart tactical decision on her part to try and get as much media mileage as she can out of today’s meaningless beauty contest.” Tom Levan, RealClearPolitics.com“Pity the GOP voter. They don’t like their candidates, they are getting tired of their president, and Talk Radio keeps yelling at them in between the candidates yelling at each other.” Daily Kos.com, on the infighting between Republican Party candidates.
I dedicate this blog to the ever flowing, ever growing, world of politics and media. May it consume my energies and last forever in this vast cyber cloud.
